Physical Therapy

Most people can benefit from physical therapy whether their condition stems from a simple ankle sprain, surgery or complex neurological disorders. Physical therapy is a conservative treatment method addressing the management, healing and prevention of injuries and disabilities. It uses non-invasive tools and programs to help improve total body function with a focus on pain relief, movement restoration and function, facilitation and adaptation associated with injury. Physical therapists are able to design attainable short and long term rehab goals with a realistic estimated time frame to achieve them. The lasting influence of physical therapy, functional restoration, is achieved by educating individuals to better understand their biomechanics (movement and structure), appreciate the importance of exercise, fitness and ergonomics to become better owners of the ‘machine’ that is their body.

Irvine Spine & Wellness Center is fully equipped to provide the best service to a wide range of patients, from those in need of rehabilitation immediately after surgery to individuals interested in attaining the best postural health and everyone in between.

What to Expect

While you may visit Irvine Spine & Wellness Center through a direct referral by your medical doctor, it is not required to have an outside referral to seek physical therapy services at our clinic. After examination by your doctor or one of our doctors at Irvine Spine & Wellness Center, you will be scheduled for an evaluation by our Physical Therapist. This visit may take approximately 60-90 minutes where the area of complaint is fully assessed. Your clinical findings will be discussed with the clinical staff to serve you to the fullest potential. A report of findings and the proposed treatment will be sent to your referring doctor when indicated. Future re-evaluations will be performed to measure your progress and customize your care according to your specific needs.

Your treatment will begin with a combination of one or more of the following and depending on your case, more advanced protocols such as neuromuscular rehabilitation, therapeutic exercises, cardiovascular work up and gait training may be added. General physical therapy services performed at Irvine Spine & Wellness Center include, but not limited to ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, interferential, heat/ice, myofascial therapy, mechanical traction, manual therapy, deep tissue massage, kinetic activities, personalized stretching program, wobble board, rocker board, disc, exercise ball, bean, weight and band exercises, cardiovascular and gait training.

Dr. Shakib Asks some important questions of interest to Irvine residents - Chiropractor Irvine Dr. Shakib Asks...

Where do most Irvine residents get their first vertebral subluxation complex?
Being born in a hospital is a common source of vertebral subluxation complex. Trauma from forceps delivery has been replaced with drugs, vacuum extraction, Cesarean section and births that are "scheduled" to fit the workweek routines of Ob-Gyns. That's why we recommend a chiropractic checkup for every Irvine newborn.
Are chiropractors just concerned with the spine?
Our interest in the spine is because it covers the major communications conduit between your brain and your body. As a Irvine chiropractor my job is to locate areas (usually along the spine) that interfere with proper nerve communications to and from your brain. Chiropractic adjustments help restore nervous system integrity. In this way, chiropractic care can affect the function of your entire body.
